LEWISTON – The Discovery School, 134 College St., is offering its first art camp to community children ages 5 to 16 during April vacation from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, April 21 to 25.

The focus of the one-week session will be on exploring different cultures through a variety of fine arts mediums. The week will begin with an adventure to Africa, with emphasis on Nigeria, Ghana and Tanzania, and will involve the creation of beads, clay pots, adinkra cloth and other projects inspired by those places.

On Tuesday the campers will dive into the history of art inspired by the American Indians, including totem poles, masks and sand paintings. Wednesday will bring them to Australia to create bark painting, didgeridoos and a giant mural inspired by the coral reef.

The following day the campers will travel back in time to the medieval times and design castles, carve gargoyles and make their own coat of arms. The week will culminate a bit differently, with a focus on recycling. Campers will have a chance to view art work that has been made from everyday objects and create their own recycled art.

The cost is $150 a child and space is limited. To register, call Amy at 713-0228.
