Basket bingo

NORWAY – A Longaberger basket bingo will be held Sunday, April 20, at the Norway Legion Hall, Main Street. Doors will open at 11 a.m. and bingo will begin at 12:30 p.m. Cost is $10 for tickets and there will also be special games, raffle baskets and refreshments. Gospel concert

OXFORD – Heaven’s Blend, a trio of musical ministers, will appear at Hosanna Church, 109 Schoolhouse Road, at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, April 20. The men of Heaven’s Blend include Pastor Tim Rawley; the worship leader, Tim Connelly, of Waldoboro Word of Life Church; and Pastor Gary Leet of Lisbon Free Baptist Church.

Sweet program

NORWAY – Children in grades one through six are invited to celebrate the wonders of chocolate from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Thursday, April 24, during school vacation week, at the Norway Memorial Library, 258 Main St.

The chocolate extravaganza will start with a reading from Roald Dahl’s classic book, “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.” Students will learn how chocolate is made, design their own chocolate bars, write advertising jingles and try a chocolate treat.

Registration set

WEST PARIS – Kindergarten registration for the Legion Memorial School for the 2008-2009 school year will be held from noon to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, at the school.

Parents of a child who will be 5 before Oct. 15 and will attend kindergarten for the 2008-2009 school year should call 674-2332.

Parents will need to bring a copy of the child’s birth certificate, an immunization record and a copy of a recent physical examination.

FD open house

OTISFIELD – The Otisfield Fire Department will hold open house from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 26, at Spurr’s Corner Fire Station, Route 121.

There will be a free breakfast from 9 to 11 a.m. The fire department will have tables covering department programs, budget, capital plan, vehicles, mandates, HAZMAT response and equipment.

Those on hand will include the Public Educational Safety Team, Oxford County Sheriff’s Office and Maine State Police, McGruff the Crime Dog, fingerprint/DNA kits for kids, face painting, county IMAT vehicle, PACE ambulance, Vials for Life, and the Conservation Committee.

A LifeFlight helicopter will arrive for 10 a.m. if not on an emergency flight.

Talk on bees

PARIS – The Western Maine Beekeepers Association will present a slide show and talk by state apiarist Tony Jadczak on honey bee pests, diseases and medication from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, at the First Baptist Church, Paris Hill.

Bridge results

NORWAY – The Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge Club met April 11 at the Fare Share Commons, Main Street.

A four-table Howell movement was played with the following winners: first in Flight A., Barbara Beegel and Les Buzzell; tied for two/three, Hazel Glazier and Marta Clements with Kathy and Pete Cummings; first in Flight B, Cindy and Bob Kirchherr; second, Marylou Burns and Carol Curran.
