BOOTHBAY (AP) – Investigators say alcohol was to blame for a highway crash last month that killed three people in Boothbay.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department said Phillip Peters’ blood-alcohol level was .36, or more than four times the legal limit, when his pickup truck crossed the centerline on Route 27 and struck a sport utility vehicle headed in the opposite direction.

Killed in the March 5 accident were the 33-year-old Peters and the two occupants of the SUV, 65-year-old David Farnham and his 63-year-old wife, Linda.

All three victims were from Boothbay.

Maj. Ken Mason of the sheriff’s department said Peters’ level of intoxication may have caused him to lose consciousness.
