LEWISTON – Jessica Stocker, a senior at Lewiston High School, captured the school record in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.18 seconds in the high school state meet at the University of Maine at Orono. The record stood since 2001.

Stocker has swum for LHS for four years but said that her senior year revolved around improving her times and trying different events. Her junior and senior years were mostly focused upon breaking the 50 free record.

When not in the pool for LHS, Stocker is pulling double duty swimming for the Twin City Swim Team. When faced with the long season and pulling double duty swimming for two teams Stocker said it gets tiring but that she always finds a way to pull through.

“Making it to states is always worth it in the end,” she said.

Stocker qualified for the meet in all eight individual events both this season and last. Wrapping up her final season, Stocker was part of the second-place swim team in the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Championships and competed in High School New Englands in Bristol, R.I.

Stocker plans to continue swimming competitively in college. She has been accepted to Drew University and Hartwick College but hopes to attend Bates.
