Pet adoption
NORWAY – The weekend that animal organizations worldwide join together to find a home for every shelter pet will take place on Saturday and Sunday, May 3 and 4, of Pet Adoption Week.
Responsible Pet Care Feline Shelter and Adoption Center, 132 Waterford Road, will participate from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. There will be door prizes and snack. For more information about Responsible Pet Care and the Pet Adoptathon 2008, call 743-8679.
Church service
PARIS – Trinity Lutheran Church, 34 Buckfield Road, South Paris, invites all to church on Sunday, May 4, when the church will celebrate the seventh Sunday after Easter with Sunday school for children and Making the Old Story Our Story for adults at 9 a.m. followed by worship service at 10:15 a.m. There will be coffee, refreshments and fellowship after.
Health meeting
NORWAY – A public meeting, Citizens for Health Care Justice, will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, May 4, at Fare Share Commons, 443 Main St.
It is the first in a series of meetings that will include a brief educational point relating to the need for health care reform, a survey of participants’ ideas on the nature of the problem and ways to achieve universal health care, and a discussion of short- and long-term steps to be taken by the group regarding community education and political action. Heywood Club
NORWAY – The Heywood Club will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, May 5, at the clubhouse. The task of filling May baskets will be done. A gift for the penny collection will be accepted.
Club plans potluck
OXFORD – The Twin Town Nature Club will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, May 5, at the Oxford Congregational Church. There will be a potluck supper and viewing of the program, “Remembered Earth: New Mexico’s High Desert” by Idaho Public Television. Visitors are welcome. Library speaker
BRYANT POND – Jim Sysko will be the guest speaker at the Whitman Memorial Library at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 8. He was the project manager for “Olympia Snowwoman” and he will talk about various projects in the field of engineering, including a project in Belize, South America. The program is open to the public at no charge. Light refreshments will be served.
Scrapbooking day
RAYMOND – The Raymond Parent Teacher Organization is putting on a scrapbooking event from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 10, at the Raymond Elementary School, 434 Webbs Mills Road. There will be free classes, Make and Takes, socializing and prize winning.
Stoneham service
STONEHAM – The Rev. George Frobig has reminded parishioners of the Oxford County United Parish Churches in Stoneham and North Waterford that services will be held at 10 a.m. at the Stoneham Congregational Church, UCC, Route 5, beginning Sunday, May 4.
Church school for students through grade four will be held on Tuesdays at 3:30 p.m. at the Stoneham Town Office/Fire Station, off Maine Street. For more information about church school, contact the pastor at 693-6461.
A progressive supper will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, May 18. Admission is $7 for adults. The proceeds from the suppers will go toward the steeple fund for repairs and painting of the North Waterford church steeple.
