BRUNSWICK – The Second Friday Art Walk will begin Friday, May 9, when two dozen exhibits and working studios open for a spring evening of art. Sites will be open from 5 to 8 p.m. in Brunswick and Topsham within walking distance of one another.

Galleries, artist studios, restaurants and businesses join in to celebrate spring and the creativity of area artists. Many locations hold receptions. Theater shows and an animation film festival at Bowdoin College are also offered.

New sites joining the Art Walk this year are Merry Meeting Art Association, with photographs on view at the Border Trust Business Center, and Artifacts/Gilders Studio, next to Maine Fiberarts, in Topsham; and Weaver Michael Patterson’s Pleasant Street studio in Brunswick. Christine DeTroy, Kim Moody and Theresa Hossenlopp join the open studio circuit in Fort Andross; and VSA Arts Maine will open its Gallery at Park Row.

‘Food in Art’ and photos on display

NORWAY – Two art exhibits will open for viewing from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 2, at Norway Memorial Library. The Western Maine Art Group’s exhibit, “Food in Art” features works by six members: Barbara Traficonte, Victoria Denninger, Joanna Reese, Janis Hutchins, Cynthia Burmeister and Frost Farm Gallery. The Oxford Hills Camera Club will display photographs by five members: LeRoy Zutter, Larry Curtis, Jerry Grant, Cynthia Curtis and Ellen Veazey.

There will also be exhibits in the two display cases at the library. In the reference room display case along with the Camera Club photographs will be a collection of historical photography items, including daguerreotypes, a stereopticon and a stereo camera.

In the display case near the new book area will be a collection of miniature glass figurines made by Zhenya Shevchenko of Galicia Glassworks in Gray.

All exhibits will be on display until the end of May during regular library open hours.

Viewers may also pick up the new Oxford Hills Gallery Guide which lists seven art gallery locations and their usual exhibiting practices: Frost Farm Gallery, Matolcsy Art Center, Commons Art Collective, Norway Memorial Library, McLaughlin Garden, Painted Mermaid Gallery and My Studio.
