AUBURN – L/A Community Little Theatre will hold a two-week theater dance workshop, taught by choreographer and actor, Mariah Perry, beginning Monday, May 5.

Perry is a performer/educator with more than eight years of professional teaching experience in dance. She has taught numerous forms of dance locally and in New York and attained her bachelor of arts in dance from Dean College.

In addition to her years of involvement with Community Little Theatre and her college theater, she performed professionally with the national tour of Care Bears Live as a dancer.

The workshop will focus on the basics of dance by establishing correct body alignment, balance and strength, as well as building a vocabulary and repertoire of dance movements most commonly used in musical theater.

The first week will encompass “The Foundation,” “Origins of Jazz Box” and “Beyond the Jazz Box.” Week two will include “Moving with Purpose,” “Building a Character” and “Telling a Story. “

Each class will incorporate new choreography to help familiarize students with diverse styles and promote self-confidence.

There will be classes for two age groups: ages 12 to 15 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and ages 16 and up from 7:15 to 8:45 p.m. The classes will be held on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
