WEST PARIS – With a crowd lining Main Street on Monday, the Ring-McKee American Legion Post observed Memorial Day.
The ceremonies honored American veterans, living or dead. Lead by event organizer and auxiliary member Bertha DeHaas, the parade opened with the Pledge of Allegiance followed by the Oxford Hills Middle School band playing “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
A service was held on Memorial Bridge with prayers offered in memory of Americans who died at sea, then a wreath of flowers was thrown onto the Little Androscoggin River.
Next, parade participants marched along Main Street to the Wayside Cemetery where flags were placed on the graves of veterans, taps was played and prayers were offered.
Closing ceremonies were held at Memorial Park in the village center.
Included in the parade were the Ring-McKeen Post Honor Guard, Boy Scouts of Troop 133, the Bobcat Twirlers, pony carts, units from the West Paris and Woodstock fire departments, and the Tri-Town Ambulance Service.
