LEWISTON – Flag Day was celebrated at Longley School on June 13. All of the students assembled next to the flag pole, and they were presented American flags by veterans from Longley VFW Post 9150, the Franco-American War Veterans, American Legion Post 22 and the Marine Corps League.
Principal Tom Hood opened the ceremony and the Pledge of Allegiance by students, staff and veteran guests.
Hood asked the sixth-graders to read their Americanism essays. Awards were presented to Savannah Barnes, Bridget Burke and Abdallah Osman by the Longley-Dionne VFW Post 9150 of Lewiston.
Following the awards, “Proud to be an American” and “Grand Old Flag” were sung. Hood closed the ceremony with “God Bless America,” sung by all present.
Hood thanked all the veterans who attended for their support and dedication to the country.
