BERLIN, Vt. (AP) – Heavy rains washed out several dirt roads in Berlin on Saturday, leaving more than a dozen households stranded.

Pat McDonald, a state representative and member of the Berlin select board, says four roads – Chase Road, Muzzy Road, McCarty Road and Winters Road – were closed. She says West Hill Road was passable but could become worse.

The National Weather Service issued a flood watch until Sunday afternoon, with a forecast for between 1 and 3 inches of precipitation.

Crews were hauling in gravel to repair the roads. The Red Cross was on the scene and was considering opening up an emergency shelter at the Berlin Elementary School if needed.
