LEWISTON – Hazel B. Kinney, 89, of Poland, went to be with the Lord on Monday, Aug. 4, as a result of an automobile accident.

She was born in Portland on May 1, 1919, the daughter of Harry F. and Ethel Blanchard. She attended schools in South Portland and Falmouth before entering the work force.

During World War II, she worked for Southworth Machine Co. and later was employed at S.D. Warren in Westbrook until her children were born. She was a homemaker the rest of her life and was a loving mother and devoted wife.

Hazel was a member of the First Baptist Church in South Portland, where she taught Sunday school for many years and was very involved with the women’s group.

She is survived by her husband, Ernest Kinney, and her sons, Philip “Johnny” Larrabee of Poland, Clayton “Curt” Larrabee and his wife, Judy, of Pensacola, Fla., and Michael Kinney and his wife, Kathleen, of Jacksonville, N.C.; her brother, Russell and his wife, Ruth, of South Portland; brother-in-law George Skillin of Falmouth; sister-in-law Victoria Blanchard of South Portland; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Hazel was predeceased by her brothers, Frederick and Harry “Allie” Blanchard; and sisters Ethel Skillin and May Staples.

In her later years, “Auntie,” as she was lovingly referred to, spent many joyous times with her sister Betty’s children, Janice Strout, Carolyn Read-Sweeney and George Skillin and their families.

She will be fondly remembered for her gentle love, wonderful smile and her spirit for life.
