PARIS – Nicholas Magliano has been chosen as the Veteran of the Month at the Maine Veterans’ Home, South Paris.

Magliano grew up in Astoria, Queens, N.Y. He volunteered for the Army on Jan. 13, 1942, and was stationed at Fort Dix and Pine Camp, N.Y., while in the United States.

Magliano was a tank commander and saw action in Normandy and Central Europe. During his service he was wounded twice and received two Purple Hearts, the European African Middle Eastern Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge and Good Conduct Medal. He was discharged on Oct. 15, 1945.

Following his discharge, Magliano returned to New York and worked as a boiler mechanic for Con Edison Power Co. He and his wife, Virginia, enjoyed ballroom dancing and Magliano still enjoys the musical entertainment at the Maine Veterans’ Home. He currently resides on the C-Unit.
