PHILADELPHIA – Pat Burrell homered and matched his career high with five RBIs, and Cole Hamels pitched effectively with some overdue run support to lead the Philadelphia Phillies past the Los Angeles Dodgers 9-2 Saturday.

Burrell put the Phillies ahead with his 30th homer, a three-run shot down the left-field line in the first inning. He got a gift RBI double in the fifth when Dodgers center fielder Matt Kemp lost a routine fly in the sun, then capped his big day with an RBI single in the sixth.

Burrell also equaled a season high by scoring three runs as Philadelphia won for the fifth time in six games.

Hamels (11-8) went seven innings, allowing two runs and five hits while striking out five and walking none. He has often received little support this season, including his last three starts, when Philadelphia totaled five runs.

Los Angeles rookie left-hander Clayton Kershaw (2-4) had his worst outing of the season as the Dodgers lost for the fourth time in five games. Kershaw, making his 15th career start, allowed a season-high six runs and seven hits in four-plus innings. He walked two and struck out five.

Cubs 9, Nationals 2

CHICAGO – Aramis Ramirez hit a pair of three-run homers and Ryan Dempster matched a career high with his 15th win for the Cubs.

Mark DeRosa homered in his third straight game and Alfonso Soriano added an RBI double for the Cubs, who improved to 48-19 at Wrigley Field. Dempster (15-5) allowed one run in 7 1-3 innings.

The right-hander, who also won 15 games for Florida in 2001, scattered eight hits, struck out four and walked one, sending the Nationals to their 13th loss in 15 games.

Odalis Perez (5-10) lasted 4 1-3 innings. He allowed five runs, four earned, and 10 hits while walking four and striking out four.

Ramirez is 7-for-15 against Perez with three home runs and eight RBIs.

Giants 4, Padres 3

SAN FRANCISCO – Rich Aurilia tripled in the go-ahead run with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning, and Barry Zito (8-15) allowed four hits in eight innings to help the Giants match their season-best four-game winning streak.

It was Zito’s second straight victory and only his third win at home in 13 decisions. He gave up three runs, walked three and struck out five as the Giants won four straight for the first time since June 6-9.

Brian Wilson worked a perfect ninth for his 34th save in 37 chances.

Mike Adams (1-2) gave up Aurilia’s triple to take the loss, the Padres sixth straight.

Braves 8, Cardinals 4

ST. LOUIS – Pinch-hitter Greg Norton delivered a tiebreaking single with two outs in the eighth inning, and Atlanta beat St. Louis to snap a six-game losing streak.

Albert Pujols homered and drove in three runs for the Cardinals.

Buddy Carlyle (1-0) pitched two scoreless innings for the win in relief of starter Jorge Campillo. It marked the ninth time in his past 10 appearances that Carlyle has kept an opponent from scoring.

Mike Gonzalez got four outs for his sixth save, securing Atlanta’s second victory in 13 games.

Kyle McClellan (2-6) took the loss.
