DIXFIELD – Dixfield Historical Society’s fifth annual Festival of Flowers opened to western Maine flower lovers and the visiting public on Aug. 17. Dozens of colorful exhibits ranging from a four-inch single flower in a tiny bud vase to large bouquets of wild and garden flowers filled the exhibition hall.

Show judges Wes and Ruth Raynor of Mexico made the following awards:

Bouquet of wild flowers: first, Lonnie Libby, Dixfield; second, Pam Newton, Jay; third, Sally Carey, Rumford; honorable mention, Terry Marsters, Dixfield.

Bouquet of cut garden flowers: Becky Kerr, Dixfield; Prudy Garbotz, Mexico; Sally Carey, Rumford; Katie Manzer, Peru.

House plant: Edith Liberty, Rumford; Sally Carey, Rumford; Lonnie Libby, Dixfield.

Flowers in a mug or teacup: Lonnie Libby, Dixfield; Becky Kerr, Dixfield; Sally Carey, Rumford.

Children 12 years and younger bouquet: Alexis Newton, Mexico.

Miniature bouquet under four inches: Sally Carey, Rumford; Becky Kerr, Dixfield; Pam Newton, Jay.

Single flower in a bud vase: Cindy Manzer, Peru; Becky Kerr, Dixfield; Sally Carey, Rumford; Edith Liberty, Rumford.

Best of show award: Becky Kerr, Dixfield.

Peoples choice award: Sally Carey, Rumford.
