Benefit event

RUMFORD – There will be a benefit for John Sylvester, cancer patient, from 3 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at the American Legion Hall. The day will include a Chinese auction, 50/50, food, snacks and drinks. For more information, call Julie Steward at 562-4331. Donations are welcome.

Society meeting

MEXICO – The Mexico Historical Society will meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, at the Historical Museum. A potluck supper will be held on the lawn, weather permitting.

The memorial for the “Don” disaster will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, at Mexico Memorial Park.

Following the memorial service, all are welcome to the museum for refreshments and to tour the newly renovated building. Members are asked to bring finger foods for the dedication.

Scout journey

DIXFIELD – Girl Scouts of Maine is offering a Girl Scout Journey for all girls in grades kindergarten to six from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at Mountain View Campground. It is an opportunity to join Girl Scouts.

Activities will include a nature craft, outdoor cooking and an active station. Girls must be accompanied by an adult.
