Ministry meeting
PHILLIPS – The Rev. Beverly Stenmark, district superintendent of the United Methodist Church, will visit the Phillips Shared Ministry on Saturday, Oct. 4. The meeting will convene at 3:30 p.m. in the basement of the Masonic Hall.
Stenmark will meet separately with the Shared Ministry and with the Phillips United Methodist Church. All members and friends of both groups are welcome to attend and meet the new district superintendent.
Apple festival
FARMINGTON – An Apple Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at the Fairbanks School Meeting House, Route 4, two miles north of downtown Farmington.
Highlights will include an apple pie baking contest, cider pressing, 50/50 raffle, kids corner, vendors and artisans performing live demonstrations of their trade. Food will be available, including hot dogs, chili, chowder, mac and cheese, apple crisp, homemade rolls and bake sale items.
It will be held rain or shine. Proceeds will go to the Fairbanks School Neighborhood Association. For more information, call Patty Jacobs at 778-4272.
Boiled dinner
INDUSTRY – A New England boiled dinner will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at Industry Town Hall. Menu will include corned beef, ham, potatoes, onions, cabbage, turnip, beets, beverages and desserts. Proceeds will benefit United in Christ Presbyterian Church. Cost is adults, $7; children under 12, $3.50.
Festival reset
LIVERMORE FALLS – The Apple-Pumpkin Festival sponsored by the Jay, Livermore and Livermore Falls Chamber of Commerce will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18.
Lolalee and the Country Bandits will start playing at the Gazebo at 10 a.m., followed by Silver and Gold at 11 a.m.. the Country Drifters at noon and Barry Wood at 1 p.m.
Performing on the recreation field will be Mary Murphy, White Dove and Sammy Angel. There will be a pie contest, food vendors, arts, crafts, games, races, prizes and demonstrations.
Thomas visit
FARMINGTON – A representative from Thomas College, Waterville, will visit Mt. Blue High School at 10:45 a.m. and Dirigo High School in Dixfield at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8.
The representative will meet with students to discuss Thomas’ academic and sports programs and its residential life opportunities.
Thomas is a private, career-oriented college that prepares its undergraduates for careers in business, technology and education. For more information, visit www.thomas.edu.
Contradances set
FARMINGTON – Contradances with live music are held at the Farmington Grange on Bridge Street every second Saturday of the month.
The next two dances are Oct. 11, with the Pineland Fiddlers and Pam Green calling, and Nov. 8 with the North Star Sisters and Richard Green calling. All dances are taught and called.

Harvest dance
FARMINGTON – A harvest dance will be sponsored by Farmington Emblem Club 460 from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Elks Lodge, West Farmington. Music will be by the Legends. Tickets are available at Mickey’s on Main Street or call Chris at 897-5209 or Shannon at 778-4726.
Square dancing
WILTON – The Friendship Squares will host a square dance from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at the Cushing School. All are welcome.
Year’s final sale
RANGELEY – The Episcopal Church Women of Good Shepherd, Main Street, will hold their final, full selection two-day rummage sale from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, and 9:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 11.
It will be the last of this year’s sales and the undercroft will be filled and it will feature clothing for all ages, as well as household items.
The Thrift Shoppe will remain in operation on the specified days.
Grange supper
EAST DIXFIELD – Mystic Valley Grange, Route 2, East Dixfield, will have a public baked bean and casserole supper from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, at the hall. Cost is adults, $5; children under 12, $3.
Society sale
JAY – The Jay Historical Society will hold a lawn sale from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 4, at the historical house on Jay Hill, Route 4. No item will be priced above 50 cents. Fill a bag for $1.
Quebec tour
FARMINGTON – The Maine Extension Homemakers toured Quebec City as their geographical area of study, where they learned about the history, architecture, arts and culture of the city.
On returning to Maine, Barbara Hathaway gave a report of the trip at the Franklin County Homemakers’ September meeting. Hathaway shared refreshments as a treat from the Musee De L’Abeille.
