Flower show discussed
TURNER – The Turner Natural History Club held its delayed August meeting on Sept. 4 at the clubhouse with 14 members and guests present.
President Richard Steele discussed the flower show and suggested a special meeting to discuss changes in the bylaws. Vice President Gordon Twitchell chaired the rest of the meeting, and members gave opinions on how they felt about the club. Program director Bill Whitman gave a report of the flower show, showed photos and reported on prizes won.
Members related nature sightings then Bill Whitman introduced the speaker, Steve Drane, Auburn, who has studied wild foods. Drane brought samples of plants found on lawns and in gardens that are edible, such as pigweed, lambs quarters, nasturtium, bamboo and milkweed. He handed out a sheet with examples of wild edibles.
