OXFORD – An Adopt-a-Dog-A-Thon event will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, at Alternative Modular Homes, 470 Main St., Route 26.

Families and their dogs are encouraged to attend and learn about many local rescue organizations, hear stories of successful rescues and adoptions and talk to the people who help rescue, rehabilitate and rehome companions.

Representatives from all over Maine and New England will attend along with some of their dogs. People can talk with representatives from more than 20 animal shelters and rescue groups who will showcase some of their adoptable pets.

It is an all-ages event, open to the public and dogs. There will be a doggie parade, costume contest, doggie pageant and stupid pet tricks.

Art by Bruce Shields will be on display, and a pet’s caricature can be done on site by Liz Penney. Dr. Jennifer Lehr of the Oxford Hills Veterinary Clinic will be available to assist with a decision on which dog (or cat) to adopt.

There is no admission fee to the rain-or-shine event, but donations to a favorite organization will be welcome. For more information, visit www.adoptadogathon.com or call 539-4800.
