Most of you think that your mom is there to help you with your homework, tell you what to do, and keep you focused in life. Well my mom did something that most moms don’t usually do. For her first time ever she got to race a dragster! It’s a long story to tell, but I will try to sum it up for you.
Our friend from the race track, Jack Cox bought a dragster body from our other good friends Sue & Grady Sexton. Jack brought the dragster over to our house to work on getting a motor in it. After three long nights, it was finally done! It started up, cleared itself out, and was ready to race.
We brought it to the racetrack in Oxford to try it out, just to see how it would run. Since my mom was one of the only ones to have a fire suit, she was going to drive it. This is just my opinion, but I think my mom looked cute in her outfit. Mom was really nervous, but trusty Bill and Brenda Sexton came over to help make my mom feel safe, since they used to race the dragster.
It was my mom’s turn to race. She went up to the lines and did the most perfect burnout for her first time! The lights went down and I was squeezing my fists as tightly as they could go. Off she went! She spun (meaning when the tires don’t stick to the track) at the line. There she went down the track! My mom did so well that when she got out of the car, I gave her a hug.
“I’m proud of you mom,” I said in her ear.
“Thank you,” she said.
