LISBON – An effort to recall Town Council Chairwoman Norma Wells fell 243 votes short of the number required by the town charter Tuesday.

The special recall election in Ward II in Lisbon Falls resulted in 333 in favor of removing her from office and 111 against. However, Town Clerk Twila Lycette said 576 votes – double the minimum of 288 valid signatures required on the recall petition – were needed to recall a councilor.

The petition, which had more than 300 valid signatures, was spearheaded by Lisbon Concerned Citizens, a group dissatisfied with the way the town is being run and how tax dollars are being spent.
