JAY – The Community Resource Fair to help dislocated Wausau Paper employees has been moved to the St. Rose of Lima Church Parish Hall.
It was initially scheduled for the Otis Mill but the church hall has more room, a kitchen and other amenities available.
The 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. fair on Tuesday, Dec. 2, is open to mill workers, their families and community members.
Some volunteers plan to remain at the hall until 10 p.m. in case some night-shift workers were not able to stop by during earlier hours.
The purpose of the fair is to bring together potential employers, educational providers, state services such as the Department of Labor and the CareerCenter, area health and social service providers, and other resources to share information with the community and Wausau employees who are transitioning into new ventures, according to Lisa Laflin, a member of the Community Response Team.
Wausau announced Aug. 25 that it planned to permanently shut down its No. 10 paper machine at its Jay mill, putting nearly 150 workers of the 235 mill employees out of work.
