AUBURN – Brenda Davis, executive director of Cross Roads Ministries and food pantry, an Old Town-based hunger agency that serves thousands of Maine people, is making her seventh annual walk across Maine to build awareness about the problem of hunger.
Davis is covering the state on foot, visiting food pantries, hunger organizations and 70 Maine credit unions in 56 towns, a record number this year, on her statewide journey.
Despite torrential rains in the Androscoggin County area on Nov. 14, Davis visited Maine Family Federal Credit Union’s Auburn branch as her tour continued through the Lewiston/Auburn area.
Maine Family’s Marketing Director Karen Caouette presented Davis with a donation from the Maine Credit Union League that will help support Old Town’s Cross Roads Ministries.
The Maine Credit Union’s Campaign for Ending Hunger is also contributing $100 to a food pantry in each community Davis visits on her trek across Maine.
“Each year, awareness and the response to Brenda’s walk for ending hunger increases,” Caouette said.
“Maine Family participates every year in the Maine Credit Union’s Campaign for Ending Hunger and this is one of our biggest community projects. This year’s collection of canned goods,” Caouette added,” “will be used for food baskets for needy families locally, and we’re currently selling a very special limited edition holiday CD featuring Maine musicians and singers. All the proceeds from the CD sales will go to the Campaign for Ending Hunger.”
Credit unions across Maine are participating in different projects to raise funds for the Campaign to End Hunger. During its first six years, Maine’s credit unions contributed $100,000 of the $110,000 that the walking tour has raised for ending hunger.
