WRENTHAM, Mass. (AP) – A nurse accused of trying to help a convicted rapist escape from prison has been order held without bail.

Deborah Girouard, of Ashby, pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges of smuggling and aiding an inmate’s escape.

Norfolk District Attorney William Keating says the 44-year-old Girouard smuggled items into MCI-Cedar Junction in Walpole to aid the escape of 39-year-old Che Blake Sosa. She worked as a contract nurse in the state prison.

Sosa is serving up 55 years for multiple rape convictions, and is awaiting trial on charges he stabbed his defense attorney in court in February 2007.

Girouard’s attorney, Tom Iovieno, could not immediately be reached for comment.
