LACONIA, N.H. (AP) – Police say a Laconia, N.H., man sneaked into a former girlfriend’s house through an unlocked window, grabbed her by the throat and smashed her cell phone.

Twenty-year-old Matthew Stark entered the apartment on Friday, got into bed with the former girlfriend and when she awoke, the two got into an argument. Police say Stark then grabbed the woman by the throat. She got away and made a call to a friend, but Stark grabbed her phone and smashed it.

When the woman locked herself in the bathroom to escape Stark, police say he tried to break down the door.

Stark has pleaded not guilty to charges obstructing the report of a crime and felony burglary. He has pleaded guilty to criminal mischief.
