Thomas G. Robitaille of Litchfield has been named to the dean’s list for the first quarter at Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, N.Y. A third-year student in RIT’s College of Applied Science and Technology, he is studying environmental management.

Robitaille is a 2006 graduate of Lewiston High School and is the son of David and Susan Robitaille of Litchfield.

Alice Efland of Auburn has earned a bachelor of science degree in applied exercise science from Springfield College in Springfield, Mass., for studies completed in August 2008.

Kelly Flynn of Lewiston was inducted into the Alpha Phi Xi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Central Maine Community College on Oct. 22.

Flynn is majoring in business and is the daughter of David and Florence Young of Poland and married to Daniel Flynn of Lewiston.

Students must rank in the top 20 percent of the class to be invited to membership in Phi Theta Kappa and must maintain high academic standing during their enrollment in the two-year college.

Louise Roy, daughter of Beverly and Marc Roy of New Gloucester, was awarded the class of 1979 student travel award at Hamilton College in Clinton, N.Y. She will travel to the Greek Islands to study volcanoes. Roy is a junior and is a graduate of St. George’s School.

Liza Walworth, daughter of Drs. Edward and Candace Walworth of Lewiston, received a masters of arts with distinction in material and visual culture from the Department of Anthropology, University College London in September.

Her focus was on cultural heritage in the midst of conflict. Walworth wrote her dissertation on UNESCO’s world heritage system and in particular, the Minaret and archeological remains of Jam, Afghanistan.

CASTINE – Maine Maritime Academy student Nicholas Starbird of Auburn recently received a scholarship from the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS). It was presented Nov. 6 at the college’s annual Celebration of Achievement. Recipients will receive a $10,000 scholarship in each of their final two years at MMA and will be given the opportunity to complete an internship with ABS. Starbird is a graduate of Eastgate Christian Academy and a member of the MMA class of 2009.

The scholarship recognizes the accomplishments of outstanding engineering students and the academic support of ABS, a leading U.S. ship classification society. Starbird was selected for the academic honor by a committee of MMA engineering faculty and administrators based on his overall grade point average, classroom and academic leadership and intellectual curiosity and growth.
