GREENE – Antonin “Tony” D. Mercier, 79, of 68 Buffie Lane, Greene, died Friday, Feb. 13, at his home.

Born in Lewiston on Dec. 22, 1929, he was the son of Aime and Rachelle Deslauriers Mercier. Educated locally, he graduated from St. Dominic High School and then served in the Korean War with the U.S. Army. On Aug. 3, 1957, he married the former Gracia Theriault, and together they owned and operated the Hampshire Street Market in Auburn for many years. A member of St. Joseph’s Parish, he also belonged to the Knights of Columbus, Council 106, enjoyed golf, boating and waterskiing, and in his younger years played the trumpet in several bands.

Survivors include his loving wife of Greene; five sons, Steven and wife, Dianne, of St. Petersburg, Fla., Joseph of Hemet, California, Mathew of Livermore, Anthony and wife, Kelly, of Lisbon Falls and Douglas and wife, Pamela, of Cohoes, N.Y.; two daughters, Lorena and husband, Robert Dubois, of Lewiston and Tanya Mercier of Greene; two sisters, Aurore “Butch” Boulette of Lewiston and Pauline and husband, Joseph Bourgoin, of Sabattus; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was predeceased by a brother, Laurent; and a sister, Muriel Laverdiere.
