RUMFORD – Charles E. Stanley Jr., 77, died Monday, Feb. 23, at his residence on Piscataquis Street, Rumford.

Beloved son of Edward and Maude (Davey) Stanley, he was born in Mexico on March 27, 1931. He had attended grammar school in Mexico and at the age of 17 enlisted in the U. S. Army. He served as an honor guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington, Va. He also served for three years as a border guard during the Korean War on the Yugoslav border in Truste, Italy.

After his retirement, he lived and cared for his mother, Maude Stanley, who survives of Rumford.

Other survivors include children, Steven C. Stanley of Portland, Kevin Stanley and wife, Nora, of Peru and Beth S. Wilkinson and Scott A. Stanley, both of Missoula, Mont.; and two grandchildren, Hannah and Mitchel Stanley.

He was predeceased by his father; and a sister, Gloria Dupill.

He was loved and will be greatly missed by his children.
