RUMFORD – Dr. Albert Aniel will share his concerns about health risks associated with wind turbines with selectmen when they meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in the municipal building auditorium.
Interim Town Manager Len Greaney said Wednesday that Aniel asked to be placed on the agenda to share issues he broached at a Feb. 18 Maine Department of Environmental Protection hearing on a proposed Roxbury wind power project.
Selectmen will also learn about a new police officer appointment, and are expected to discuss and/or approve a drug policy for town employees, vacant building signage, forester bids, a St. Patrick’s Day parade permit for Le Paresseux Club, and a Texas hold ’em poker tournament for the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Greaney said police officer Jennifer Cramer resigned to take a job out of state. Reserve officer Donald Miller will be appointed to fill her position.
Vacant building signage involves Selectman Frank DiConzo’s attempt to “calm the message down” after selectmen received complaints about the condemned-posting method used by Code Enforcement Officer Rick Kent.
Selectmen will also review a handful of bids to hire a forester to selectively harvest trees at the Puiia Business Park off Route 108.
“We want to make the lots more visible to anyone who wants to drive in and see what they look like. Right now, when you drive in, you just see a lot of trees everywhere,” Greaney said.
Money from the sale of harvested trees will be used to put out to bid other tree harvesting jobs to thin town-owned forests.
Selectmen will also hold a 30-minute budget planning session by having tax collector Carlo Puiia lead a discussion with the board and explain which funds are raised from taxes.
It’s the first such process being started by Greaney to better inform selectmen and the public. Selectmen will convene more sessions in the future.
Two closed-door sessions will also be held: the first to discuss a request for a General Assistance hearing and the second involving a personnel matter between selectmen and Greaney.
