LEWISTON – Area residents received free tax preparation and e-filing of state and federal returns on Feb. 7 at the Multi-Purpose Center. IRS-certified volunteers from the Lewiston-Auburn Tax Credit Awareness CA$H Coalition provided the service during the “Super Refund Saturday” event.

Residents with appointments, along with 26 walk-ins, took advantage of the coalition’s annual earned income tax credit awareness outreach, which also included accessibility to asset-building coaches and financial literacy booths on site, including Maine Homeworks, Key Bank, the City of Lewiston and the City of Auburn.

Now in its sixth tax season, the coalition’s efforts have resulted in over $5,709,800 returned to residents in the Lewiston-Auburn area. Volunteer tax preparers are still available to prepare and e-file federal and state returns through March at the Multi-Purpose Center or Auburn City Hall. Those interested in scheduling a free appointment may call 513-3160.
