LEWISTON – One of the first signs of spring life is the song of the spring peeper. These and other inhabitants of the vernal pools of Thorncrag Nature Sanctuary await participants in the herping field trip sponsored by the Stanton Bird Club on Friday, April 24.

The group will meet in the Thorncrag parking lot, off Montello Street, at 6:30 p.m. The program is expected to run until 8:30 p.m.

The group hopes to find and identify wood frogs, fairy shrimp, salamanders, tadpoles and several kinds of invertebrates. Participants are asked to bring a flashlight.

Stanton field trips are free and open to the public. For more information, contact trip leader Susan Hayward at 782-5238.:
