Caitlin N. Prantl, daughter of LTC Harry D. and Nancy H. Prantl and granddaughter of William and Joyce Higgins of Auburn and Mrs. Carl Prantl of Yorktown, Va., will graduate from the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., on Tuesday, May 27.
She will receive a bachelor of science degree in geospatial science and minor in Spanish. Prantl has been a four-year member of the Drum and Bugle Corps, earned her Airborne Wings. She spent the summer in Nerja, Spain, in a language immersion program.
Prantl will be commissioned a second lieutenant in the Air Force and attend pilot training at Columbus Air Force Base in Mississippi.
James Ethan (Jed) Dobson of Thetford, Vt., will attend Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind., in the fall to pursue a doctorate in English.
Dobson began working on a second career in the fall of 2006, majoring in English at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He was awarded a BA in English cum laude in September 2007.
In June 2008 he received an MA in humanities from the University of Chicago.Dobson attended schools in Buckfield and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1998. He received an associate in computer science from Southern Maine Community College in 2000 and spent several years starting in high school working in the computer field.
Prior to entering UMass and most recently he has been employed at Dartmouth College of Hanover, N.H. He plans to teach upon obtaining his PhD. Dobson is the son of James Dobson and Maida De-Mers Dobson of Buckfield.
Emily Gordon of Kingfield was recently inducted into the Mount Ida College Chapter of the Pi Sigma Eta Honor Fraternity, the national honor society for funeral service. Inductees are chosen for their academic performance, scholarship and service to others.
Gordon, daughter of Wade and Ann Gordon of Kingfield, is a freshman in the funeral service major at Mount Ida College, Newton, Mass.
A local student, Elliott Jordan Munn, has been awarded the J. B. Sewall Latin Prize at Bowdoin College. The award was announced May 6 at the annual Honors Day ceremony.
This prize is awarded to members of the sophomore class who sustain the best examination in Latin.
Munn ’11, of Norway, is a classics major. He is a graduate of Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School.
