RUMFORD – The Rumford Public Library has announced auditions for “The Not-So-Normal Life of a Gingerbread Teenager.” The play will be directed by Susan DeRoehn, with Lisa Picard as her assistant.

The script for this year’s Summer Fest Children’s Theatre production started as a project in Michelle Ladd’s sixth, seventh and eighth grade classes at Holy Savior School.

Under the supervision of Nancy Demings, Children’s Theatre director for the past 10 years, the students provided some of the characters, setting and dialogue for the story. Demings used their material to complete the finished script.

Last year DeRoehn was Demings’ assistant director for “Re-Elect Prince Charming,” also an original script written by Demings for the Summer Fest program.

The storyline of “The Not-So-Normal Life of a Gingerbread Teenager” takes Tilly, a lazy and self-centered teenage Gingerbread girl, on some unexpected adventures to places like Root Mountain and Tin Pan Alley.

She must confront Gummy Bears and Kit-Kats and even the mysterious Mother Root. With the help of her brother, Fred, and some unexpected new friends, Tilly learns that being a Gingerbread is something to be proud of.

Children ages 5 to 15 are encouraged to attend auditions on Tuesday, May 19. A second audition date is set for Thursday, May 21 for those unable to be there Tuesday.

Older teens are also needed to help with choreography, stage and tech work, prompting, assistant directing and backstage help. Both auditions will take place from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the library’s public room.

“The Not-So-Normal Life of a Gingerbread Teenager” will be presented to the public in matinee and evening performances on July 30. For more information, contact DeRoehn at 364-8798 or the library at 364-3661.
