Opener for Bean’s concerts
Madeleine Peyroux, best known for her smoke-and-whiskey vocals, is often compared to Billie Holiday. The musician who burst onto the recording scene in 1996 will kick off L.L. Bean’s Summer Concert Series Saturday, June 27. Her debut album, “Dreamland,” received rave reviews; appearances at Lilith Fair and opening tours for Sarah McLachlan and Cesaria Evora followed. Peyroux’s new album, “Bare Bones,” was released in March on Rounder Records. This year’s concert lineup includes Patty Loveless, Blues Traveler and The Wallflowers. The free, outdoor concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. in Discovery Park, adjacent to Bean’s store on Main Street in Freeport. Listeners may want to bring a lawn chair. Concerts may be canceled due to inclement weather. For updates, call 1-877-755-2326. For a schedule of concerts through Sept. 6, log on to llbean.com/freeport.
