The Stadler Gallery in Kingfield will open its summer season with two exhibitions of work by Stephanie Knowlton of Oakland and Barbara Stewart of Kingfield. The quilt, above, is part of Knowlton’s “Piece by Piece: a Quilter’s History” show. While drawn to traditional quilt patterns, she is also intrigued by other pattern designs, especially landscapes and pictorials. “A Pot of Paint” is the title of Stewart’s show, taking a quote from art critic Camille Mauclair describing an exhibition of paintings by Matisse, Derain and other Impressionists and Fauvists. While Stewart first found expression in drawings and sketches, she now prefers to work with oil and sometimes acrylic paint. One of her paintings in shown above. An artists reception will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 28. The exhibitions will be on view from noon to 4 p.m., or by appointment, from June 27 to July 17.
