LIVERMORE FALLS – Police are investigating vandalism done to a stage set up on the high school baseball field for last weekend’s graduation.

Police received the call from the high school at about 9 a.m. Saturday.

The stage had been spraypainted with orange paint and the words Jay High School Class of 2009 along with indecent graffiti, Livermore Falls police Chief Ernest Steward Jr. said Monday.

There was also damage done to the field where a vehicle left ruts, he said.

Just because it said Jay High School doesn’t automatically mean it was written by residents from that town, Steward said. It could be someone who wanted it to look like they did it, he said.

Jay police and Jay School Department Superintendent Robert Wall said no damage was found to be done to Jay High School or the athletic fields in that town.

“We’re looking into the situation and cooperating with police and school officials to get down to the bottom of this. We’re interested in making sure this is resolved,” Wall said of the incident in Livermore Falls.
