NEWRY — The Maine Handicapped Skiing’s board of directors has selected Peter S. Adams of Yarmouth and Hanover to be the new executive director.
Adams will take over for Betsy Doyon, who is stepping down after a distinguished 21-year career at MHS to work in a family business venture in the Bethel area.
Adams joins MHS after 23 years at Unum, the nation’s leading disability insurance provider and one of Maine’s largest employers. He served in a variety of senior leadership roles at Unum in financial and operational areas, including six years in Tokyo as the CFO and then president of Unum Japan.
He has also been actively involved in the community. He currently serves as president of the Maine Island Trail Association and is a board member of the World Affairs Council of Maine. He is a lifelong skier and served as a volunteer ski patroller at Saddleback before relocating to Japan.
Since his return to the United States in 2004, he has been a regular at the Sunday River Ski Resort, where MHS is headquartered. His educational background includes a bachelor of arts degree from Bowdoin College and an master of business administration degree from George Washington University. He and his wife have three children.
