AUBURN – Team Argo took sole possession of first place in Auburn Players League men’s softball with a thrilling, 6-5 walkoff victory over LA Fire.
After the Firemen scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to tie the game, it took Argo (7-2) only two swings to settle it in the bottom half. Argo speedster Ben LaChance led off with a double, then scored on another two-bagger by Mike Dyer. LaChance and Dyer also led Argo defensively with several sparkling plays.
Argo pitching ace Del Cooper gained the mound victory. Argo will attempt to continue its winning ways at 7:30 p.m. Thursday against the Gamers at Pettengill Park.
Outlaws 22, Young Guns 2
Ryan Pleau, Hunter Erikson and Keith Wright each went 4-for-4 to power Outlaws past Young Guns, 22-2, in Auburn Players League action.
Pleau and Erikson each drive in four runs. Wright plated a pair. James Bixby was 3-for-3 with three RBIs and posted the pitching win, as well.
Alex Merchant homered for Young Guns.
