John Marcellino Sr.
1917 – 2009
LEWISTON — John Marcellino Sr., 92, of High Street, Rumford, died Tuesday, July 28, at Central Maine Medical Center, after a brief illness.

He was born in Rumford, July 3, 1917, a son of Tony and Lucia (Casile) Marcellino. He was educated in Rumford schools. He married Lena Parisi on July 27, 1944, and together they celebrated 54 years of marriage. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II.


He was employed for 40 years with Oxford Paper Co.. He was a communicant of Parish of the Holy Savior and was a life member of the VFW Post 1641.


He enjoyed spending time with his family and never missed a sporting event his son, John participated in. He volunteered to coach in the basketball tournament in Lewiston and their team proudly won and they presented him with the winning trophy. He also loved to play cards, gardening, watching westerns on TV and following his grandkids’ music presentations.


He is survived by three children, Lucy F. Marcellino of Rumford, Susan A. Marcellino of Rumford and John Marcellino Jr. and wife, Louise, of Westbrook; two grandchildren, Scott John Marcellino and wife, Debbie, of Wakefield, R.I., and Beth A. McVetty and husband, Mike, of South Windham; six great-grandchildren, Katelyn, Allison and Nicole Marcellino and Michaela, Molly and Chloe McVetty; and a sister, Lucy Negrini of New Britain, Conn.


He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Lena (Parisi) Marcellino; four brothers, Tony, Mike, Paul and Joseph Marcellino; and a sister, Angie DiPinto.
