AUBURN — Turner Street drivers will notice a big change to the traffic pattern north of the Auburn Mall in the next week.

New stop signs will be going up at Jolene Avenue for Turner Street
traffic between the area of the mall and Central Maine Community
College in the next week, according Auburn Community Relations Manager
Tracey Steuber.

Currently, Turner Street traffic has the right of way in both northbound and southbound directions at Jolene Street. Jolene Street traffic has to stop.

According to plans, cars traveling north or south on Turner Street will stop at Jolene. Jolene traffic, turning onto Turner Street, will no longer be required to stop, she said.

“It’s going to be a big change and we really want people to be aware,” Steuber said. “We’ll have signs up warning people, but it really will be a very big change. We need them to be aware of the new traffic pattern.”

The new signs are part of the Maine Department of Transportation’s rehabilitation work on the street. Crews are scheduled to finish work there this fall.
