Christy Manning of Scarborough High School and Indiana Faithfull of Cheverus High School have been named Miss and Mr. Basketball for 2010 by the Maine Association of Basketball Coaches.

The award is presented annually by the MABC to the state’s top female and male high school basketball seniors and was announced at the annual MABC awards banquet at Husson University.

Manning, a 6-foot forward, averaged 15 points, 10.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in leading Scarborough to a perfect season and its first ever Class A state championship this year. She was selected over fellow Miss Basketball finalists Jennifer Nale of Waterville and Claire Ramonas of Deering.

Faithfull, a 6-foot-4 guard, led Cheverus to a 21-1 record and its second Class A title in three years while averaging 12 points, five rebounds and six assists per game. The other Mr. Basketball finalists were Dominic Borelli of Westbrook, Keegan Hyland of South Portland and Stefano Mancini of Falmouth.

Gray-New Gloucester’s Molly Mooney and Camden Hills’ Carlos Baeza received the Spirit of the Game awards, which were renamed in honor of Josh Titus of Auburn and Patrick Thibodeau of Cumberland. The awards honor two high school seniors, one from the East and one from the West, who emoby the spirit of the sport, exemplify sportsmanship, support and inspire their teammates and coaching staff, and who show an ability to overcome obstacles and boundaries.

Scarborough High School girls’ basketball assistant coach Bob Fallon won the Bob Brown Contributor Award. Fallon has been a coach at Mexico High School, Oxford Hills High School and Edward Little High School.

The banquet also honors participants in the Maine McDonald’s High School Senior All-Star Basketball Games, which start at 9:15 a.m. Saturday at Newman Gymnasium on the campus of Husson University in Bangor. TIckets are available at the door and are $7 for adults and $5 for students, children and senior citizens. Net proceeds from the games benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Maine.
