FARMINGTON — An Augusta man pleaded not guilty to several indictment charges Friday stemming from an October 2009 series of car thefts, the ramming of a police cruiser that injured a Wilton police officer and breaking into Rick’s Market in Wilton.

Jacob Hastings, 21, entered not guilty pleas to charges of aggravated assault, reckless conduct, burglary, aggravated criminal mischief and four counts of theft by unauthorized use of property.

However, Hastings admitted to violating his probation and to having his probation revoked related to previous robbery convictions in another county.

Several vehicles were stolen in Temple on Oct. 19, 2009, and police have previously said Hastings was the driver of a stolen van that struck a Wilton police cruiser in Temple. Wilton officer Nathan Reid, who was assisting other police agencies, had stopped the cruiser to try and put up a road block. The cruiser was hit and the van damaged.

Police say Hastings is one of three men involved in the night’s antics.

Hastings has been in Somerset County Jail in Madison since his arrest last year. His bail remains at $10,000 cash or $100,000 worth of real estate.

A Winslow man, Robert C. Lacroix, 22, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges of unauthorized use of property and leaving the scene of a property damage accident in connection to the same case.

Police had previously charged him a felony of passing a roadblock and theft by unauthorized use of property.

Lacroix had pleaded no contest last week to two charges of misdemeanor assault in an unrelated case in Penobscot County, Lacroix’s attorney, Kevin Joyce, said. Lacroix was sentenced to nine months concurrent with each other on those convictions.

Justice Michaela Murphy sentenced Lacroix to six months each on the Franklin County charges to run concurrent with the Penobscot sentence. Lacroix has been in jail since October.
