100 years ago, 1910

TURNER — Principal Johnson of Leavitt Institute has underway the arrangements for a debate between the students of the institute and those of the Livermore Falls High School. It is now planned to hold the debate the first week in May and to that end, trials will be held in the near future for the purpose of selecting the team. Among the candidates are C. Fuller, Chester Soaper, Milton fish and Harold Leavitt.

50 years ago, 1960

Miss Marie Grondin was crowned Miss Lewiston-Auburn last evening after winning the contest held before a crowd of about 900 persons at the Lewiston High School auditorium.

The five finalists in addition to Miss Grondin were Rosalie Ames, Jeannine Carrier, Judy Boulay and Sandra Foss.

The other contestants were Georgette Caron, Sharon McMann, Connie Lambert and Claudette Dutil.

25 years ago, 1985

The Lewiston Planning Board will hold a hearing Tuesday on the mini-mall proposed on the site of the former Louis Chevrolet dealership at 675 Main St. Outer Main Street Associates has received a conditional-use permit and a variance from the city Board of Appeals to build the mall. The mall will extend far beyond the rear of the present building and reportedly will include a discount supermarket as well as several smaller retail stores.
