Local diligent exterminators of the brown tail might learn a few things from Myron W. Maxim of South Paris. In lieu of suitable apparatus to remove the nests from the highest parts of the elm trees, Mr. Maxim has of late been shooting them down. Several charges of shot are generally necessary and sometimes the attempt is unsuccessful.

50 years ago, 1960

Members of the Edward Little Hi-Y Club yesterday painted the flagpole in front of Lewiston High School which was coated with red paint last fall during the football season, apparently by ELHS students. The Auburn students painted 15 feet of the pole its original aluminum color. LHS Principal Linwood J. Kelley commended the EL students for the work.

25 years ago, 1985

In what was considered to be ” the very best festival yet,” WCBB Channel 10’s 16-day fund drive raised $153,882 from 3,154 pledges, an increase of 28 percent from 1984. Sixty-six percent of those are new members of Channel 10.

According to Membership Director Diana Barnes, 83 percent of Channel 10’s operating budget is raised through voluntary contributions. The bulk of the rest comes from matching funds that depend on the amount of voluntary contributions raised.
