RANGELEY — A Rangeley man faces charges after police say he broke into a residence on School Street, next door to the police station, on Saturday evening.

A witness told police that someone went through a window into the residence but did not come back out, police Chief Dennis Leahy said Monday.

Police saw a window on the side of the residence open and looked inside with a flashlight and saw a man crouched down beside an entertainment center.

Officer John Bonnell asked Joshua Woodward, 30, to open the door and he did, Leahy said.

When Woodward was asked what he was doing there, he said he had to go to the bathroom. Residents who live there were contacted and said they did not know the man.

Woodward was arrested on charges of felony burglary, and misdemeanor criminal mischief and possession of burglary tools, Leahy said..

After he was arrested, police patted Woodward down and found a pry bar in his back pocket, he said.

Woodward remained in jail Monday morning and was to appear in court later in the day.
