LEWISTON – Hammond Lumber found its way back into the win column in South Lewiston Little League baseball with a decisive 17-5 win over Dube Gravel.

Colby Bilodeau picked up the win for Hammond, pitching four solid innings. Elijah Harris led the offense going 4-for-4 at the plate with a triple and scored four runs. Garret Poussard added two hits and also scored four runs. Brent Jones added two hits and two runs, as did Bilodeau. Orion Haynes played a solid defensive game in his first game of the year after recovering from a broken leg.

Carlos Baez powered Dube’s offense with a two-run double deep to center field. Heath Woodrum reached base twice and scored a run. Shawn Vincent added a double and was robbed of another hit by Poussard. Nick Belanger added a hit and two walks.

Hammond will face off Friday Night against Aroostook Fence in a rematch of Monday night’s nailbiter.

Elliot Ave.

LEWISTON – Dube Flower rallied for a thrilling 5-4 victory over Anthoine Financial in Elliot Ave. Little League major division baseball.

Rookie Kaleb Hebert pitched two scoreless innings with three strikeouts in relief of Brady Cusson, earning his first career win for Dube (7-1).  Jordan Ferrell led the Dube offense, going 2-for-2 with a triple and two runs scored. Owen McCarthy helped the cause by going 2-for-2 with a pair of runs.

Cusson scored the game-winning run for Dube in the home half of the sixth inning on a passed ball.

Luc Dostie lead the way for Anthoine, hurling five innings and allowing only two earned runs on five hits while striking out 12. Hayden Dumont went 3-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Parker Brownrigg, Jon Sturgis and Jayden Wilson all scored for Anthoine.

New Auburn

AUBURN – Poisson’s moved its record to the plus side with a 9-3 victory over VFW in New Auburn Little League major division baseball at Pulsifer Field.

Andre Coachman pitched four solid innings, allowing three runs and striking out seven for Poisson’s (5-4). Cameron Dubay pitched two shutout innings to close the game. Dubay and catcher Riley Deraps worked together to catch two baserunners attempting to steal home.

Calean Pelletier led the offense with three hits, including a triple, and three RBIs. Bryce Lebel had a pair of doubles and two RBIs. Coachman cranked an inside-the-park home run.

Donavon Cunningham pitched a solid game for VFW, recording six strikeouts. Danica Nadeau recorded seven strikeouts in relief. Griffin Verrill reached base twice and scored once for VFW.

Aroostook Fence (7-1) defeated Gendron Seafood, 11-7, behind strong pitching performances from Austin Merritt (three innings, eight strikeouts) and Andrew Loisel (three innings, six strikeouts). Jacob Tiner struck out nine for Gendron’s. Jack Leblond led Aroostook with a triple and a single. Brenden Hanlon and Nick Powers each knocked a double. Hunter Landry topped Gendron with three singles. Jacob Gosselin chipped in two.

Aroostook’s seventh victory of the season was an exciting 8-7 win over Hammond Lumber. Hammond tied the game at 7 in the top of the sixth when Ryan Bell scored from second on a grounder to the right side of the infield.

Leblond scored the winning run from first in the bottom of the inning when Hanlon crushed a double into the left center field gap. Aroostook’s starting pitcher Sam Blaisdell pitched four innings, striking out seven. He was relieved by Ben Trytek, who fanned five in two innings.

Ryan Bell pitched four solid innings for Hammond, striking out eight. He also went 2-for-2 with a home run and a single. Elijah Harris had a double, and Garret Poussard went 2-3 with a double and a single.

For Aroostook, Blaisdell had a double and a single. Trytek tacked on two singles.

Aroostook and Hammond will play a rematch tonight at the South Lewiston Little League field.

Gendron’s Mobile rebounded from two consecutive losses when its bats came alive on Tuesday night. Every player on the team reached base and scored a run in a 11-4 win over VFW.

Ben Ferrence struck out eight batters and only gave up one run in five innings. Colby Desjardins belted a triple. Isaac Dube scored three runs. Gordon Beckwith was tough behind the plate, throwing out two runners.

Gendron’s played a great defensive game, committing no errors through the entire game. Gendron’s meets Dube Gravel on Tuesday.

Elliot Ave.

Auburn Suburban

AUBURN – Austin Associates rattled off three consecutive victories in recent Auburn Suburban Little League action. Austin is now 4-2.

Austin’s toppled the previously undefeated Auburn Firefighters, 11-10, in a seesaw battle. Brandon Varney led Austin’s with two triples. Jason Taylor and Justin Keaney contributed key hits in a seven-run second inning.

Repeat hitters for Auburn Firefighters were Austin Cox (three hits) and Noah Perron (two hits). Varney, Keaney and Dylan Marston combined to strike out nine batters. Noah Morsehead, Tyler Blanchard and Austin Cox shared pitching duties for AFF.

Later in the week against East Auburn, Austin’s pounded out 10 hits, led by Keaney and Varney with two each, on the way to a 14-2 win. Billy Duclos also contributed at the plate along with Alex Breton and Cam Gagne. Keaney pitched a one-hit complete game, striking out five. Lew Jensen and Dillon Hummes handled the pitching duties for East Auburn.

Austin ran its current win streak to four with a thrilling rally past HRH Insurance, 16-14. Austins scored 11 runs in the sixth inning to rally from a 14-5 deficit for the unlikely triumph.

Varney led Austin’s with three hits, including two home runs. He knocked in seven runs. Other Austin players with key hits on the day were Chris Laverdiere, Sam Michaud, Breton and Keaney. For HRH, Cole Butler, Brandon Knapp and Nick Hathaway had multiple hits, while John-David Hurd had a triple. Dylan Marston picked up the win in relief for Austin.

American Concrete hosted Hammond Lumber in an ASLL minor baseball battle in the heat. Hammond fought hard to hold off American’s lead despite being short a few players. Hammond’s Iain Frumiento showed his defensive skills with two nice catches. Frumiento, Spencer Morrill, Cooper Watkins and Eli Mowry each scored for Hammond. Joey Leavitt, Austin Brown, Bobby Tremaine, Jake Arel, Marius Morneau, Sebastian Sirois and Nathan Bartshe crossed the plate for American.

Hardy, Wolf & Downing posted its second ASLL win of the year, 10-1, over Auburn Fire Fighters. Jacob Dubuc and Jack Coyne each pitched three solid innings. Mason Brushwein led the balanced attack at the plate with a two-run double.

ASLL players are reminded to turn in fundraising money by this Saturday, May 29. There will be a table and tent set up for collection.
