Dick Bazinet of the Lewiston Public Works Department ignites some American flags during a flag-burning ceremony held at the Lewiston Public Works operation center on Friday. The event was organized by Roger Fillion, right, of the Lewiston American Legion Post 22, with the cooperation of public works employees Bazinet, Chuck Smith and Mike Gagnon, who prepared the site. Fillion said the flags represent our country and those who gave their lives to preserve it and they deserve a proper disposal, a burning and burial. The event culminated with prayer by Jerry DerBoghosian and the singing of God Bless America led by Moe Marquis a member of the Marine Corps League. A large number of flags were discovered by Rick Rodrigue of Lewiston at the city dump. Marquis brought the discovery of the flags to the attention of city personnel and veterans groups.
