AUBURN – NAPA Auto Parts extended its current winning streak to four games with a pair of wins in Auburn Rec Players League South Division softball.

In the first contest, NAPA avenged an earlier loss to the second-place Tail Gators with an 8-0 blanking at Pettingill Park. NAPA started with a bang, scoring two runs in the first, two in the second and three in the third. The winners added one more tally in the fifth.

Anthony Clark went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Kevin Pontbriand, Dave Pontbriand, Andy Ouellette, Demetrius Starks and Justin Robash all were 2-for-3. Kevin Pontbriand had two runs scored to go with a triple, while his father Dave had a double and two RBIs. Ouellette and Starks each had an RBI, and Robash added a run scored to the mix. Kasey Clark helped out a hit, a walk, two runs scored and an RBI.

NAPA held off a late charge by Tthe Outlaws to prevail 8-7 in eight innings. Pitcher Terry Goguen grabbed four line drives at the mound, two of them triggering double plays.

The back-and-forth affair began with two NAPA runs in the first inning. The Outlaws answered with three in the top of the third, but NAPA tied it in the bottom of the inning with a run by Kevin Pontbriand off an RBI double by Kasey Clark.

The Outlaws scored four runs to take a one-run lead in the top of the seventh, but NAPA rallied for a run to force extra innings. After NAPA held the Outlaws scoreless in the top of the eighth, Kasey Clark led off with a single to left, followed by another single by Dave Pontbriand. Andy Ouellette hit a game-winning double to right center, scoring Clark and sealing the hard-fought victory.

The top of NAPA’s batting order led the way, with Kevin Pontbriand, Anthony Clark, Kasey Clark, Dave Pontbriand and Andy Ouellette all going 3-for-4. Kevin Pontbriand had two runs scored, a double and an inside-the-park home run to go along with two RBIs.

Kasey Clark scored two runs, doubled and knocked in a run. Dave Pontbriand also had a run scored with two RBI. Ouellette’s game-winning RBI was his second double of the game. Demetrius Starks also chimed in with a 2-for-3 performance batting behind Ouellette, knocking in two.

With the two wins, NAPA moved into third place in the division. Through the last three games, NAPA’s defense had a 12-inning streak of not allowing a runner past second base.

NAPA faced Taylor Brook Dental on Wednesday and will battle the Gamers tonight to close the regular season.

Meineke trips Haggerty

AUBURN – Meineke Muffler held off Haggerty Contracting, 13-12, in Auburn Players League softball. Ryan Wilson scored the winning run off of a base hit from Jeff Brackett in the bottom half of the eighth inning. Chris Willer, Tom Smith and Mike O’Connor all were repeat hitters for Meineke. John Langelier was the winning pitcher.
