RUMFORD — Rumford Hospital Therapy Services will present a series of four workshops during September and October, in celebration of Rehab Week and Physical Therapy Month.
The free sessions will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. Wednesdays, Sept. 8, 22, Oct. 13 and 27, in Conference Room A on the hospital’s ground floor. Light refreshments will be served.
On Sept. 8, Heidi Dening, PT, will offer “Balance: Improving awareness and home safety to reduce the risk for falls.” Dening, a 2000 graduate of Quinnipiac College, is certified in Mulligan techniques for joint mobilization, kinesio taping and lymphedema therapy.
In addition to home and community safety, she will explain the impact of foot pain on balance, how to choose proper footwear and how medications can affect balance. Often overlooked risk signs, including how taking four or more medications can increase a person’s risk for falls, will be offered.
Later workshop topics will include “Pain: can it be shut off like a light switch?” “Standing Tall: preventing and managing osteoporosis” and “Take action against arthritis.”
All the sessions are free and open to the public. No registration is necessary. For more information, call 369-1099 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
