NORWAY — Frost Farm Gallery will hold a First Friday reception on Aug. 6, when visitors can meet Delian Valeriani, whose works are on display in an exhibit titled “Manifesting the Dream.”
Valeriani’s paintings are representations of the inner human experience. “A painting is alive when it is coming to be. I stop short of the ‘finished look’ to give the image a sense of unknown direction,” said Valeriani.
“To create this effect, I must work fast and the acrylic medium allows me to create a painting in as few sittings as possible while my feeling of the painting lingers. Dry time is rapid enough that high contrast is easily established and a motion exists throughout the work,” he explained.
“My works are slightly imbalanced, which can be unsettling to some, but give the work a sense of motion unto itself,” Valeriani said. “The eyes are directed around the paintings rapidly by form, content, line, color and tone. Never let the eyes settle. The viewer’s energy following this path brings the work to life.”
Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School graduate Mike Maurice will provide keyboard music for the reception from 5 to 8 p.m. at the galley at 272 Pikes Hill.
The reception is free. The exhibit will run through Saturday, Aug. 28. For more information, call 743-8041.
