UPTON — A small group of current and former residents of Upton have been meeting monthly since January of 2010 to organize and incorporate a new historical society in the Western White Mountains of Maine.
Newly elected officers and trustees include president, Joe Bernier; vice president, Bob Folsom; treasurer, Lou Bernier; secretary, Jennie Bernier; and trustees, Jim Rector, Leslie Aron and Deborah Judkins (who has also been appointed curator).
Other people who have helped with the establishment of the historical society are Doris Williamson Fraser, Richard Fraser, Mary Douglass Davis, Richard Angevine, Judy Bennett, Avery Angevine, Aldro French, Marie Johnston, Leslie Fuller, Jeanne Abbott, Earnest and Alberta Angevine, Scott Wight and Ginny Williamson.
Permission has been granted by the Selectmen for the Upton Historic Society to use the upstairs floor of the schoolhouse, which needs a lot of work to make it presentable and workable. A work day was held on July 11.
Membership applications are available online on the Facebook page for “Upton Historical Society,” with a membership fee of $10. Memberships can be mailed to Joe Bernier, Back Street, Upton, ME 04261. For more information, call Deborah Judkins at 533-2331.
